I joined Withings to work on a double strategic challenge:

1. The company was just sold by Nokia and had to renew its branding and re-focus its offer on chronic deseases.

2. It started to shift from selling hardware to designing its first paid coaching service, hosted in its app, Health Mate.

Withings makes connected devices that aim to seamlessly improve everyday health

There, I looked for ways to make health data more meaningful, so that they can get more engaged, monitor their progress, and stay motivated.

A single home, from Sunday run to chronic desease

Redesigning this modular home required to adapt to very different types of users, each of them using any combination of the brand's dozens of devices — providing data about weight, sleep, cardio-vascular risk or fitness — from 3 times a day to 3 times a year.

Introducing Health Mate Coach

I worked closely with the team to define its ergonomics, inspired by chatbots without losing efficiency and integrating with the rest of the application. We also defined its visual identity and worked a physiologist to define together the format of the personalized advice that the Coach will be able to provide to the users.

Adding context to medical data

Some health measurements need elements of context in order to be interpreted and allow correlations detection at a bigger scale. I had to test several versions on users to make this very simple module both compact and affordant. Users had various and frequent ways of logging data, therefore cards reorder so that the filled and most used ones are always first.

Crossing psychological checkup and data collection

In order to help users loose weight, monitoring sensations and feelings is a powerful way to interpret user's progress. It is also used in the app to adapt the tone and pace of the coaching program.

Passing by the marketing team...

In addition to my product design work, I made the motion design of Withings' new logo. We wanted an animated signature that feels connected, friendly, dynamic, healthy and organic.

From dreamer to designer

I understood that for a product designer, the biggest challenge is not to imagine the best experience. It is to design the most helpful MVP for minimal development effort, so that it can be quickly rolled out in beta, tested, and improved.
